WHARVES AND PIERS:
13.
Temporary dwellings of contractors on the
sites of their enterprises were uprooted, and the
Chinese bathing pavilions along the North Point shore
were totally wrecked. Windows, doors and roofs were
broken in at the Diocesan Boys' School and at the
Central British School.

Repairs to this and to the
offices affected are estimated at $4,000.
14. The yacht "Shenandoah" cut adrift from her
moorings and crashed into the sea-wall belonging to the
China Light and Power Company at Tai Wan. This
resulted in the failure of the Kowloon electricity
supply for about an hour during the height of the typhoon.
$1,000 worth of damage was done to the wharf. The
premises of Bailey's Shipyard, China Import and Export
Lumber Company, Far East Oxygen and Acetylene Company
and the Chung Wah Book Company also suffered considerable
losses.
15. All wharves and piers were exposed to the
pressure of the rising tides from beneath and to the
force of the wind and driving seas from above, and few
escaped without some damage. Displacement of beams on
the jetties extended the delay in resumption of the
ferry service across the harbour, but by 10 a.m.
temporary repairs had been successfully effected. Many
of the piers along the western praia where the sea was
roughest will have to be completely rebuilt. All
lighthouses continued to function throughout the typhoon
with the exception of Cheung Chau light and beacon
which were washed away.
